Register now for Howell
Tiny Tots program

The Howell Recreation Department is holding registration for its Tiny Tots program Feb. 19-22, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Howell Recreation Building. The Tiny Tots program gives 3- to 5-year-old children the opportunity to socialize with other children. The program runs 9:30-11:30 a.m. and includes story time, play time, sing-along, arts and crafts, as well as other fun activities. The fee is $25 for the six-week session. A copy of the child’s birth certificate along with proof of residency is required. All children participating must be completely toilet trained and have all required medical forms completed one week prior to the start of the program. Details: (732) 938-4500, ext. 2501.

Workshop to be held on

raising teens, pre-teens

The Jackson Community Alliance for the Prevention of Alcohol and Drug Abuse (CAPADA) is presenting a free four-part workshop series for parents.

The workshop, "Raising Pre-teens and Teens While Remaining Sane," will be conducted by Bonny Bowman of Preven-tion Education Services. The program will be held at the Goetz Middle School from 6:45-9 p.m. on Mondays Feb. 25, March 4, 11, 18. Preregistration is required. Call the Alliance at (732) 833-3020 and leave your name, phone number and address. There will be no childcare at this workshop. Topics will include setting limits, choosing your battles, avoiding debates, using consequences and privileges, parental stress, and getting children to do their chores.

All Shore Chorus taps

two Lakewood students

This past November, more than 300 students from the shore area auditioned for the All Shore Chorus, a classical choir. Of the 100 selected vocalists, six attend Monsignor Donovan High School, Toms River. Among the six students are Ray Marzarella and Greg Plavcan, both of Lakewood. The All Shore Chorus culminates its concert schedule with the release of a CD.

In January, auditions were held for the New Jersey Honors Jazz Choir. Twenty-three students from throughout the state were selected to be a part of this choir, and 10 were from Monsignor Donovan High School. Greg Plavcan of Lakewood was among those selected. The jazz choir will perform at the New Jersey Music Educa-tors Association Convention on Feb. 22, and at the New Jersey International Association of Jazz Educators at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, on March 5.

Circus night slated

at Ocean County Mall

The Ocean County Department of Parks and Recreation will host Circus Night at the Ocean County Mall, Toms River, as part of its monthly Family Fun Nights on Feb. 22, 7-8 p.m. The event will include a number of free activities at the food court area of the mall. Jugglers, face painters, clowns and magicians will delight children of all ages. The next scheduled Family Fun Night at the mall will take place on March 15.
