FRANCES MORAN SCHROEDER, 84, of Lakewood, died Jan. 27 at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Born in New York City, she had lived in Cliffside Park and Toms River before moving to Lakewood. She was a product inspector for Maxwell House Coffee, Hoboken. She was a member of United Food and Commercial Workers Local No. 56. She was a former communicant of the St. Paulist Fathers Roman Catholic Church, New York City. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, George J.; two sons, Stephen C. Hornik Sr. of Jackson and Bruce W. Hornik of Cream Ridge; two daughters, Patricia Hornik Limozinere of Howell and Marta Lande Jacobs of Toms River; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Perrineville section of Millstone, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold. WINIFRED LEAV, 81, of Howell, died Feb. 14 in The Manor Care Center, Freehold Township. Mrs. Leav was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved from New York City to The Villages in Howell in 1976. She was an occupational therapist in St. Vincent’s Hospital, New York City, for 17 years, retiring in 1982. Surviving are her husband, Mortimer Leav of Howell; a son, David Leav of Beverly, Mass.; and three grandchildren. Interment was in Floral Park Cemetery, South Brunswick. AGNES ELIZABETH "BETTY" ROBERTS, 79, of Howell, died Feb. 2 at home. Born in Newark, she had in Manasquan and Brielle before moving to The Villages, Howell, in 1975. Mrs. Roberts was a registered nurse at Monmouth Memorial Hospital (now Monmouth Medical Center), Long Branch, before retiring to become a homemaker. She was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church, Adelphia section of Howell. She was a graduate of Manasquan High School; attended Monmouth Junior College (now Monmouth University), West Long Branch; and a graduate of the Monmouth Memorial School of Nursing, Long Branch. She was predeceased by a son, David; and a brother, Franklin Shaak. Mrs. Roberts is survived by her husband, Donald; two sons, Thomas J. of Kansas City, Mo., and Alan D. of Freehold Township; a brother, Phillip Shaak of Brielle; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Galene Boyette, followed by interment at Atlantic View Cemetery, Manasquan. GEORGE J. TJARKS, 85, of Freehold Township, died Feb. 1 at home. Born in Jersey City, he had lived there before moving to Freehold Township 24 years ago. He was an inspector for the New Jersey Department of Motor Vehicles, Freehold Township, for 25 years before retiring five years ago. He was predeceased by two sisters, Adele Newton and Mildred Tanton. He is survived by his wife, Helen Laurits Tjarks; a son and daughter-in-law, George R. Jr. and Bridget Tjarks of Lakewood; a daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Peter Vendetti of Colts Neck; four sisters, Viola Magner, May Reich and Audrey Schroeder, all of the Silverton section of Dover Township, and Carolyn Gonzales of Spring Hill, Fla.; and six grandchildren. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Robert Bellarmine Roman Catholic Church, followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, both in Freehold Township. ARTHUR S. POINSETT SR., 80, of Howell, died Feb. 21 at home. Born in Wrightstown, he lived in Freehold before moving to Howell in 1950. He was a custodian at Air Cruisers, Wall, retiring in 1986. Before working at Air Cruisers, he had been employed at the A&M Karagheusian Rug Mill, Freehold, and Lily-Tulip, Holmdel. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a recipient of the Bronze Star. He was a communicant of St. Veronica’s Roman Catholic Church and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 09691, both Howell. He was predeceased by his wife, Marie E., in 1999; and a son, Arthur S. Jr., in 1966. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carol A. and Walter Lucas of Howell; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Memorial services were held in the chapel at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arnytown. CHESTER D. PAFF SR., 87, of Howell, died Feb. 5 in Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. He was born in the Bronx, N.Y. and had lived in the Oakhurst section of Ocean Township before moving to Howell 35 years ago. He was a member of the Jersey Shore Inventors Club, meeting at the Howell library. He was the owner of Eatontown Kleanrete until his retirement. He also owned Chester Products in Oakhurst. Surviving are his wife, Anna Rose Paff; two sons, Chester D. Paff Jr. of Wall Township, and Douglas Paff of the Cedar Run section of Stafford; a foster son, Stanley Emanuels of Palm Harbor, Fla.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. VIOLA BONGIOVI, 96, of Howell, died Feb. 9 at FountainView Care Center, Lakewood. She was born in Neshanic and resided in Freehold before moving to Howell in 1994. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank, who died in 1994. Surviving are two grandchildren and their spouses, Glenn and Kris Bongiovi of Point Pleasant, and Donna and Howard Belton of Howell with whom she lived, and four great-grandchildren. Interment was in Resurrection Cemetery, Piscataway. RUTH C. SPRENG BATES, 84, of Sayreville, died Feb. 16 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. A daughter, Kathleen Bates, died in 1991, and a son, William Bates, died in January. Surviving are two sons, John Bates of Sayreville and Elliott Bates of Jackson; a daughter, Phyllis Bates of Sayreville; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A Mass was offered at Our Lady of Victories Church, Sayreville. JOHN J. BURKE JR., 53, of Howell, died Feb. 22 at St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in the Bronx, N.Y., he had been a resident of Howell for the past eight years. He was the owner of Executive Business Forms, Robbinsville, for 15 years. He was a 1966 graduate of St. Mary’s High School, South Amboy, and attended Newark College of Engineering. He is survived by two daughters, Melissa Burke of Freehold and Doreen DeFella of Jackson; his parents, John J. Sr. and Grace Sloan Burke of Howell; a brother and sister-in-law, James R. and Cindy Burke of Old Bridge; and two sisters, Karen Whelan of Howell and Patricia Bargloski of Forked River. The committal service was held at Franklin Memorial Park Chapel, North Brunswick. WILLIAM A. KENEVICH, 84, of Jackson, died Feb. 12 at home. He was born in New York City and had lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., before moving to Jackson 12 years ago. He was a restaurant manager for Café Savrin in New York City for 35 years. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army and a World War II veteran in the 34th Infantry division. He received a purple heart and a bronze star. He was a member of St. Mary’s Russian Orthodox Church, Jackson. He is survived by his wife, Olga Kenevich; two sons, Stephen of Aberdeen, and Richard of Howell; a daughter, Donna Kenevich of Jackson; two sisters, Helen Kivi of New York City, and Dorothy Frye of Hazlet; and one granddaughter. A Mass was offered at St. Mary’s Russian Orthodox Church, Jackson. Interment was in St. Vladimir’s Cemetery, Jackson. STANLEY LEMANSKI, 83, of Lakewood, died Feb. 9 at Medi-Center, Lakewood. He was born in Jersey City and had lived in the Lakewood-Jackson area for many years. He was a carpenter for John Pirrong Construction Co., Toms River, for many years retiring in 1979. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth, and their children. Graveside services were held at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Jackson. DORIS T. GRAY, 76, of Jackson, died Feb. 10 in Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Mrs. Gray was born in Piscataway and lived in Freehold before moving to Jackson in 1999. She was a clerk at Freehold Raceway for 15 years, retiring in 1996. Most recently, Mrs. Gray was employed at ShopRite, Manchester Township, for the past 18 months. Her son, William H Gray, died in 1970. Surviving are six sons and three daughters-in-law, Lonnie D. of Farmingdale, Mark W. and Maria of Hallstead, Pa., John and Juleann Smith of Freehold, Kevin R. of North Hanover, John T. and Debbie of Erin, Tenn., and Timothy M. of LaGrangeville, N.Y.; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Baronek of Toms River; two daughters and one son-in-law, Karen D. and Pasquale Petrucci of Magnolia, Del., and Jeanne E.D. of Keansburg; her former husband, William H. Gray Sr. of Erin, Tenn.; three brothers, Andrew H. White of Upper Tract, W.Va., Dale H. White of Live Oaks, Fla., and Norman H. White of Pinellas Park, Fla.; three sisters, Ferol Oertel and Emma Himey, both of Monroe Township, and Marie Flanagan of East Brunswick; a sister-in-law, Nell White of Old Bridge; 25 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Interment was in Maple-wood Cemetery, Freehold Township. Memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, Monmouth Unit, 801 Broad St., Shrewsbury, 07702 would be appreciated. |
