Rosenwald, Placitella join
regional high school board

Two new members of the Freehold Regional High School District Board of Education have taken their seats on the panel. Following the April 16 school election, the board held its reorganization meeting on April 29.

Joining the board for their first three-year terms are Bonnie Rosenwald, representing Marlboro, and Christopher Placi-tella, representing Colts Neck. Rosenwald replaces Dr. Steve Mishkin as Marlboro’s representative while Placitella replaces Arlene Radman as Colts Neck’s representative.

Marlene Caruso of Freehold Township won re-election to her seat on the board in the April 16 election.

The other members of the board which oversees the 9,700-student district that operates high schools in Colts Neck, Freehold Borough, Freehold Township, Howell, Manalapan and Marlboro are Patricia Horvath of Manalapan; Terry Kraft and Ronald Lawson of Howell; Colin Miller of Farmingdale; Diana Cappiello of Englishtown; and Bernice Hammer of Freehold Borough.

At the reorganization meeting, board members voted unanimously to return Horvath to the president’s seat.

"I would just like to thank all of the board members for their vote of confidence," Horvath said. "I look forward to working together again for another successful school year."

Caruso was elected as the board’s vice president, defeating Miller. Caruso voted for herself and received support from Hammer, Rosenwald, Horvath and Law-son. Miller voted for himself and received support from Kraft and Cappiello.

Placitella, who arrived late to the meeting, was not available for the vote.

In other business, the board named a new attorney to represent the district. The firm of Schwartz Simon Edelstein Celso and Kessler, of Florham Park, has been appointed as the legal firm for the district and will serve for a period of one year effective immediately. Nathanya Simon will serve as the board’s attorney, replacing James Collins.
