Input sought on Route 88 woes

New Jersey Department of Transportation (DOT) officials will hold a public information meeting on May 23 at 7:30 p.m. to discuss road improvements for Route 88, Lakewood.

According to a press release, concerns have been raised due to increasingly heavy traffic of cars, buses and trucks, as well as more pronounced bicycle and pedestrian use of the right of way, especially near Ocean County Park.

DOT planners and their engineering consulting firm will be on hand to present their findings of a recently conducted Route 88 deficiency investigation in Lake-wood. This meeting will gather public input and ideas for road improvement concepts and will be conducted as part of the DOT’s project development and public involvement process.

The meeting will be held at the Lakewood municipal building. The short presentation will be followed by a question and answer session. Lakewood residents and business owners are invited to attend.

"Lakewood residents should come out and add their input to this project. Safety in this area has been a concern. This meeting will assist with the development of improvements for Route 88," said Mayor Raymond Coles.
