Grant recipients to be announced in Lakewood

The Lakewood BlueClaws and founding sponsor First Union National Bank will present the winners of the 2002 Edu-cational Winners Circle grants Sept. 13 at 10 a.m. The Educational Winners Circle is a charitable community initiative set up to help Monmouth and Ocean County children. BlueClaws General Manager Geoff Brown and Suzanne Svizeny, First Union president for South Jersey, will be in attendance, as well as the winners of a $25,000 main grant, and two additional grants. The grants will be awarded in the BlueClaws executive conference center at FirstEnergy Park, Lakewood. Representatives of the group receiving the main grant will be on hand as well. Ten cents from every ticket sold at BlueClaws games goes toward the Educational Winners Circle grants. With a total attendance of more than 466,000 people this season, more than $46,000 in grants will be awarded.

Free child safety seat inspections in Howell

Monmouth County Sheriff Joseph W. Oxley will conduct free child safety seat inspections Sept. 18 at the Howell library at 318 Old Tavern Road, from 3:30-5:50 p.m. The Sheriff’s Office Safe C.A.R.G.O. program, which stands for "Children And Restraints Go Together," teaches parents to identify and correct unsafe or improper car seat installation. The Safe C.A.R.G.O. checkpoint is open to all Monmouth County residents. The safety checkpoint is being conducted to educate and inform parents, and no motor vehicle summons will be issued to participants.

Art exhibit extended

at Howell gallery

The Bruce Fallender art exhibit at the Adelphia Art Center in Howell has been extended through Sept. 30. The exhibit covers six decades of art from 1959 to date and features many award winning works. Fallender is listed in Who’s Who in Inter-ior Design, Who’s Who in New Jersey and Who’s Who in the World-Global Edition, and has been teaching art classes in Howell since 1975. A special added feature is a display of works of art by the artist’s mother, Cecilia Fallender, who died in 1984. She was an award winning artist in her own right. Wine/cheese tasting at Georgian Court College

Sister Mary-Theresa McCarthy, professor of modern languages at Georgian Court College, Lakewood, has announced the fall semester’s inaugural meeting of Alliance Francaise of Georgian Court, to be held Sept. 12 at 7:30 p.m., at the campus’ Ruggerio Room.

Linda Healy, president of the Alliance Francaise of GCC, invites the French-speaking public to join members for this annual social.

Attendees will sample imported wines and cheeses from France. The purpose of this meeting is to provide an opportunity for Francophones — and anyone interested in learning to speak French — to participate in an evening of French conversation. The public is welcome to attend. Admission is $6 for nonmembers.

Evolution/creation to be

topic of presentation

The topic of creation vs. evolution is the theme of a Creation Presentations Tour coming to the area.

Mike Riddle, adjunct speaker for the Institute for Creation Research, will answer such questions as: Are science and creation compatible? What does the fossil record really tell us about evolution? Is evolution a proven fact?

Riddle has spent 19 years speaking across the country on creation/evolution. He will be speaking at the Jackson Baptist Church, 360 Bennetts Mills Road, on Sept. 15 at the 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. services. Details: (732) 928-0080.
