PHILIP RESTIVO, 80, of Howell, died Dec. 14 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he resided in Staten Island, N.Y., prior to moving to Howell Township eight years ago. He was a tailor at Unite National Cotton, New York City, retiring 18 years ago. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. His activities included playing pool and painting. He is survived by his wife, Frances Avanzato Restivo of Howell Township; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jerome and Mary Restivo of Freehold Township, and Vincent C. Restivo of Levittown, N.Y.; four sisters, Frances Restivo, Mary Restivo and Kate Pillera, all of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., and Anna Russo of Staten Island; and two grandchildren. GLADYS ROSENSHINE, 81, of Lakewood, died Dec. 20 at University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia. Born in New York, she had lived in Howell before moving to Lakewood 25 years ago. Mrs. Rosenshine was a bookkeeper for Howell Woodworking for 10 years before retiring in 1980. She was a member of the Pioneer Women of Toms River, the Deborah Heart and Lung Foundation, the Bocce Club and the Menorah Club of Original Leisure Village. She was predeceased by her husband, Aaron Rosenshine, in 1970. Mrs. Rosenshine is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Susan Rosenshine of the Clarksburg section of Millstone, and Rick and Kim Ross of Malibu, Calif.; a daughter and son-in-law, Sybil and Michael Tartaro of Fairfax, Va.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Interment was in Beth Olam Memorial Park, Lakewood. EUGENE W. ROGERS, 73, of Parlin, died Dec. 21 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Mr. Rogers was a machinist with Hercules Inc., Parlin, for 18 years before his retirement. Prior to that, he was a machinist for American Can Co., Jersey City, for 30 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Fran Tint Rogers; a son, Kevin Rogers of Monroe; three daughters, Sue Rogers of Plainsboro, Christine Rakowski of Lakewood, and Cathleen Scalzo of Ware, Mass.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Victories Roman Catholic Church, Sayreville, followed by burial at New Calvary Cemetery, Parlin. Memorial donations may be made to Children’s Specialized Hospital, New Providence Road, Mountainside. JODI SUE MILLER, 36, of Freehold, died Dec. 25 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she lived most of her life in Freehold. Mrs. Miller was a 1984 graduate of Freehold Township High School. She is survived by her husband, Christopher; a son, Justin; her parents, Steven and Ellen Dutka of Manalapan; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Andrew and Kathi Dutka of Bayville, and Matthew and Allison Dutka of Howell; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Donald and Estelle Miller of Monroe; her grandparents, Aaron and Dorothy Schattner of Pompano Beach, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Manalapan, followed by interment at Agudath Achim Cemetery, Freehold. MARY NIMMO SANSONE, 73, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., died Dec. 29 at The Hospice Residence, Stuart, Fla. Born in Scranton, Pa., she resided in Old Bridge before moving to Port St. Lucie one year ago. She was a member of St. Bernadette’s Roman Catholic Church, Old Bridge; and a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 2229, Old Bridge. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Sansone; two sons, James Sansone of Jackson and Joseph Sansone of Matawan; two daughters, Phyllis Stappert of Waretown and Janet Kane of Jackson; nine grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. RICHARD PAUL THOMPSON, of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown, died Dec. 30 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Newark, he resided in Union before moving to Port Monmouth 47 years ago. Mr. Thompson was employed at Jaejer Lumber Co., Madison, for 15 years, retiring in 1992. Prior to that, he was a foreman at Dairy Lee, Newark, for 40 years. Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bertha Paaz Thompson; a son, Richard Paul Thompson Jr. of East Stroudsburg, Pa.; two daughters, Lynn Halvorsen of Howell and Kathy Klein of the Clarksburg section of Millstone; a brother, Kenneth Thompson of Port Monmouth; two sisters, Violet Sohlgren of Florida and Marge Arnold of South Carolina; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Burial was at Graceland Memorial Park, Kenilworth. J. HERBERT HODAPP, 68, of East Brunswick, died Dec. 13 at home. Surviving are his wife, Peggy Pancza Hodapp; a son, Kevin Hodapp of Howell; a brother, Elbert W. Hodapp Jr. of East Brunswick; and a granddaughter. HARRY E. BROWN, 78, of Old Bridge, died Dec. 30 in St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. Surviving are his wife, Muriel Holman Brown; five sons, Glen of Lakewood, Steven of Manalapan, Donald of Cary, N.C., Thomas of Bayville and William of Old Bridge; a daughter, Judith Frank of Jackson; a brother, Art; two sisters, Margie and Ruth; and nine grandchildren. EDWARD FLYNN, 46, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, died Jan. 1 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. Surviving are two sons, Daniel and James, and a daughter, Christina, all of Sayreville; his mother, Marion Hall Flynn Arcieri of the Toms River section of Dover; and a sister, Kathleen Flynn of Kentucky. Services were held at Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, Parlin. Interment was in Christ Church Cemetery, South Amboy. SIMON SCHWARTZ, 86, of Howell, died Dec. 15 in Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he grew up in New York City, moved to Morristown in 1941 and moved to Howell Township in 1977. He was employed as a salesman in the plumbing and heating industry until his retirement in the mid-1980s. He was a member of the Senior Social Club at The Villages, Howell. He was a member of the Prime Timers at the Manalapan Jewish Center. He was predeceased by his first wife, Eva, in 1964; his second wife, Lucille, in 1991; and a son, Peter, in 1978. Surviving are his companion of many years, Charlotte Bader of Marlboro; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael I. and Jackie Schwartz of Mendham, and Robert S. and Alice Kuchuk of Sussex; a daughter, Jamie Kuchuk of Whippany; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Services were held at Clayton & Son Funeral Home, Adelphia. Interment was in Cedar Park Cemetery, Paramus. EMILY CYBULSKI SKOK, 91, of Sebastian, Fla., formerly of Toms River, died Dec. 16 in Palm Bay Hospital, Palm Bay, Fla. Born in Poland, she settled in Jersey City, and resided in South Brunswick and Toms River before moving to Florida. She was a communicant of St. Sebastian Church, Sebastian, Fla. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley Skok, in 1987. Surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Stanley Jr. and Loretta Skok of Sebastian, Fla., Eugene and Leonia Skok of Jamesburg, and Walter Skok of Jackson; a daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Tom Coletti of Sebastian, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Services were under the direction of Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick. A Mass was offered at Holy Trinity Church, Helmetta. Interment was in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Monroe Township. SYLVIA HIRSCH, 74, of Howell, died Dec. 17 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold. Mrs. Hirsch was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and had lived there before moving to The Villages, Howell Township, 27 years ago. She was a secretary with the Monmouth County School District, Freehold Township, for five years, retiring in 1995. She was a member of the Women’s Club at The Villages. Surviving are her husband, Marvin Hirsch; two sons, Robert Ian Hirsch of Malakai, Hawaii, and Gary Alan Hirsch of Freehold; one brother, David Glaser of Levittown, N.Y.; three sisters, Ann Slitzan of Boca Raton, Fla., Pearl Tarasuck of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Joyce Schneider of Plainview, Long Island, N.Y. Services were held at Beth Israel Cemetery, Temple of Israel Mausoleum, Woodbridge, followed by entombment. |
