New MOMS Club will
host an open house

The MOMS Club of Jackson-East will hold an open house membership drive from 10 a.m. to noon on Aug. 1 at the Jackson Jungle playground, in the Justice Center complex off West Veterans Highway.

The MOMS Club of Jackson-East is the township’s second chapter of the MOMS Club, an international nonprofit group specifically for at-home mothers and their children. Membership in the new chapter is open to any at-home mother in Jackson who lives east of Route 527. Those living west of Route 527 are welcome to join their sister chapter, MOMS Club of Jackson-West. Howell to commemorate

Korean War anniversary

Monmouth County Freeholder Ted Narozanick will be the keynote speaker at the Howell Township 50th commemoration of the Korean War. The event will be held at the Town Hall Memorial Oval, at 1:30 p.m. July 27. The Korean War ended on July 27, 1953. State Sen. Robert Singer (R-30) will make a special presentation. The Howell Korean War Commemoration Committee is comprised of Robert Bischoff, the Commander of VFW Post No. 9691; Norman Cottrell, Farmingdale American Legion Post No. 178; Warren Curry, a Howell resident; Bruce Davis, the township manager; Ed Kelly, member of the American Legion Post No. 178; Frank Longo, secretary of the VFW Post No. 9691; and Helene Schlegel, director of parks and recreation.

Trellis workshop set

for July 26 in Lakewood

The public is invited to a Rustic Trellis Making Workshop at Calgo Gardens, 84 Cross Street, Lakewood, July 26, 10 a.m. The cost of the workshop and all the materials is $65 for a trellis or $80 for a combination trellis-planter box. Call (732) 905-6606 to register. Class size is limited.

Janice Shields, an expert in using natural materials, will demonstrate the art of trellis making and will give participants guidance in constructing their own rustic trellises. Shields will provide all the materials and connecting hardware. Students will use some power tools, but they do not need previous experience in using any of the tools.
