Parent says drivers do take care on street near St. Veronica school

I am a mother of two children from Howell, like Ms. Pisano who wrote to complain about no action being taken against the parents of St. Veronica’s school, who she says are speeding down Moroz Street endangering children in the neighborhood.

I have been on Moroz Street in the morning at the same time as she on many occasions and do not feel she is being fair about this situation. Our principal was so upset over the possibility of one of us being at fault that she really "read us the riot act," so to speak, right after school began in September. We have all been driving on eggs ever since. This apparently is not good enough for Ms. Pisano.

The driver of the bus she claims that is continually "gone around" by St. Veronica drivers almost always waves on any cars he sees, even though he has been asked not to do so. Are we supposed to ignore his direction? The speed of most cars is nowhere near 25 mph, in fact it is usually about 10 to 15 mph because of this problem; if anyone was speeding it has long ago been stopped.

Ms. Pisano or someone who resides on that street has now taken to a game of "chicken" of sorts with the drivers coming down the street. This person intentionally walks in the street with their small children and unleashed dog, wavering in and out, on and off the grass as if to see whether you will come close enough to them to cause an incident.

As to why we use the street when we have other entrances, I’m sure the Howell police have explained to her that we have bus safety issues in our own parking lots which enter into this.

However, the real bottom line is that Moroz Street is a public street and we have as much right to use it to access St. Veronica’s or anything else it connects to as anyone who resides on it.
