1830s funeral re-enacted March 21 at Allaire

Historic Allaire Village at Allaire State Park, Route 524, Wall, will present a re-creation of the funeral of Frances Duncan Allaire, wife of James P. Allaire, March 21 at 1 and 2 p.m.

The Howell Works residents will depict the mourning customs of the 1830s. The re-creation will begin at 1 p.m. as the funeral procession makes its way from the Allaire household to the chapel. The villagers will join the procession and participate in the funeral service held in the chapel. The Rev. Tanser will give the eulogy. After the service, villagers and visitors are invited to pay their respects to the surviving family members at home.

The presentation is free of charge. Allaire Village Inc. hosts many educational programs throughout the year and is supported by private donations, membership fees, fund-raising events and patronage of the retail stores on site. The Village also receives a grant from the N.J. Historical Commission. Details: (732) 919-3500 or visit www.allairevillage.org.
