Michael James Nicholas

Mr. Nicholas, 76, of Middletown, Lakewood, and Holmes Beach, Fla., died Jan. 29 at Blake Memorial Hospital, Bradenton, Fla. He was born in New York City. Mr. Nicholas was a chief contract administration officer at the New York Shipping Association before his retirement. During his career at the shipping association, he helped establish and preserve the work rules governing movement of freight in and out of the United States through unionized dockside shipping terminals on the East Coast. Prior to that, he worked at SeaLand Service Inc. He also was a special agent for the F.B.I. in Los Angeles and New York City. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps in 1944. Mr. Nicholas is survived by his wife of 52 years, Veronica Nicholas; three daughters, Patricia Nicholas-McGinley of Tinton Falls, Mary Elizabeth LaMura of Shrewsbury, and Ann Veronica Galbally of Blue Bell, Pa.; a son, Michael James Nicholas Jr. of Atlanta; a sister, Alice McKeon of New Milford; and eight grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. The John E. Day Funeral Home, Keyport, was in charge of arrangements.

Felicia Milgiorino Melilli

Mrs. Melilli, 83, of East Brunswick, formerly of Lakewood, died Feb. 5 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a seamstress with the South River Dress Co. Her husband, Emanuelle Melilli, died in 1987. Surviving are a son, John Melilli of Mount Laurel; a daughter, Laura Latkovich of Edison; a brother, Domenico Milgiorino of Venice, Italy; and four grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Mary of Mount Virgin Church, New Brunswick. Entombment was in St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery, Lakewood. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, OH 44720.

Louis Squitieri Sr.

Mr. Squitieri, 75, of Freehold Township died Feb. 17 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Manhattan, N.Y., he had lived in the Tompkinsville section of Staten Island, N.Y., for 25 years before moving to Howell in 1981 and then to Freehold Township in 1994. Mr. Squitieri was a bus foreman for the New York Transit Authority in Manhattan before retiring. After his retirement, he worked for Freehold Township High School as a custodian for 14 years, retiring in 1997. He was a communicant of St. Robert Bellarmine Roman Catholic Church, Freehold Township, and a life member of the Transit Retirement Association of New York City. He was also a member of the Silvermead Community Club, Freehold Township. Mr. Squitieri is survived by his wife, Jean Squitieri; two sons, John Squitieri of Staten Island and Louis Squitieri Jr. of Freehold; a daughter, Eleanor Fusco of Howell; two stepsons, Jim Laskodi of Sayreville and Robert Laskodi of Howell; two sisters, Catherine Porrino and Susan Assunta Carter, of Staten Island; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass was offered at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, followed by interment at St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery, Lakewood. The C.H.T. Clayton & Son Funeral Home, Adelphia section of Howell, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to CentraState Healthcare Foundation, 916 Route 33, Suite 6, Freehold 07728.

Edward W. Hyers

Mr. Hyers, 77, of Neptune died Feb. 17 at Imperial Care Center, Neptune. Born in Long Branch, he had lived in Asbury Park before moving to Neptune and worked in maintenance for Maidenform, Farmingdale. Surviving are three sisters and a brother, Helen Hyers and Doris M. Archer, both of Farmingdale, Edna Ackerman of Eatontown and Clarence F. Hyers of Howell. C.H.T. Clayton & Son Funeral Home, Adelphia section of Howell, was in charge of arrangements, which were private.
