Children’s memorial garden to be built

  • Members of the New Egypt Handi-capped Children’s Committee and its trustees are building a Children’s Memorial Garden on the lodge grounds in honor of children who have passed away. They are seeking volunteers in landscape design, excavating, graphic design, irrigation, electric and masonry to assist. Memorial bricks will be placed in the garden to honor any child deceased before age 21 and Handicapped Children’s Committee roster children. Bricks will also be sold for anyone who wishes to memorialize a loved one. Those interested in helping or purchasing bricks may contact (732) 928-7726.

    Howell Human Services/Youth and Family Counseling Services together with the Tangled Thread class from Howell Senior Center and the children from the Greenville School, have created “Backpacks for Babies.”

    These “backpacks” will be given to mothers with newborns and young infants who can use some extra help.

    The seniors from the Tangled Thread Class created the hand-knitted and crocheted blankets, sweaters, hats and booties. The yarn they use is donated and they can always use donations. To make a yarn donation, call (732) 938-4500, ext. 2550.

    The Character Education Committee of Greenville School and Ms. Belluscio’s first grade class collected and donated many kinds of baby items that a new parent would need. The children worked hard and their teacher delivered a truckload of goodies to the agency.

    MOMS Club accepting

    donations for shelter

    The New Egypt Area MOMS Club is holding a donations drive to support Providence House, Ocean County’s domestic violence shelter. Donations of full-size toiletries and health and beauty items may be dropped off at any of the following New Egypt locations: New Egypt Marketplace, Main Street; the Plumsted Branch of the Ocean County. Library, Evergreen Road; Curves, Jacobstown-Cookstown Road; New Egypt Middle School (main office), Evergreen Road; and Learning Steps Children’s School, Magnolia Road.     The Howell Recreation Department has several events planned for the holiday season. For information on any of the following events, call (732) 938-4500, ext. 2501.

    • Teen Holiday Dance, Dec. 30, 6-10 p.m. at Our House restaurant. Fee: $25 per person. For teens in grades seven through 12.

    • Mother-Son Dance, Feb. 18, March 11, April 8 and 29, at Our House restaurant, from 6-9 p.m. Tickets will go on sale Jan. 3 for $28 per person.
