Writer believes Howell school budget deserves support from voters

With the local Board of Education elections upon us, there is no opposition for the three open seats (in Howell). It is my opinion that the community supports the Howell elementary school district and feels they are doing an acceptable job on behalf of the children and the taxpayers.

Being there is no opposition; there is still a very important reason for everyone to cast his or her vote – the local school budget. In the past I have not supported the budget, but this year I feel the Board of Education’s Finance Committee did an outstanding job in keeping the tax rate at a modest increase.

With the addition of two new schools and the settlement of all employee contracts, the increase of 8.33 cents is well within reason and deserves support from the taxpayers. I ask that everyone support the budget and get out to vote on April 19.
