Golf outing deemed success

Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts held its 14th annual Girl Scout Golf Classic on July 11 at Knob Hill Golf Club, Manalapan. This year’s event raised $40,960 for Monmouth Council.

A total of 114 golfers turned out to support the Girl Scouts and enjoy the beautiful weather, fellowship with other golfers and a gorgeous course.

The event also featured a silent auction with the golfer in mind. Many foursomes at elite courses were available to the highest bidder, according to a press release.

“This event would not have been such a success without the support of the co-chairs Kathy McGrorry, and Cindy Gelay of Gloria Nielson Realtors, along with the dedication of the volunteer committee, sponsors and golfers. Their commitment to Girl Scouting ensured a successful event,” said Sue McClure, chief executive officer of the Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts.

“All the funds generated by the Girl Scout Golf Classic will remain in our local area, helping girls grow strong,” McClure added.

The hallmark of all Girl Scout events is the participation of the girls. The golf classic was no exception.

The following Girl Scouts helped out at the tournament by assisting as hole sitters: Dina Anzano, Hannah Bogolub, Deirdre Donovan, Laura Donovan, Katie Grabowski, Christina Quercia, Brittany Quinn, Emily Radman, Ashley Rongo and Logan Samuel.

Members of the Girl Scout Golf Classic Committee included Charlene Archer, OceanFirst Bank; Robin Fitzmaurice, Valley National Bank; Tom Ford, TF Associates; Alice Guttler, CentraState Healthcare System; Tom Hayes, New Jersey Natural Gas; Carole Horowitz, Commerce Bank; Bob Kave, Philmont Country Club; Bob McGirr, Clayton and McGirr Funeral Home; Lucia Millan, Two River Community Bank; and Gerry Norkus, Norkus Foodtown.

Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts’ next major fund-raiser will be “Taste of the Holidays” on Nov. 7 at Old Orchard Manor. This event will feature a fun night with gourmet food, wine tasting and a gift auction with themed baskets. The cost is $60 per ticket.

Auction items valued at more than $75 are needed for the event, and sponsorship opportunities are available. For more information contact Nancy Cummons at (732) 938-5454, ext. 37 or send e-mail to ncummons@mcgirlscouts.org.

Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts serves more than 12,200 girls throughout Monmouth and northern Ocean counties in conjunction with a group of more than 4,500 adult volunteers.
