The Jackson Freedom U11 soccer team is the MOSA National 4 division champion after posting a 10-0 record. In those 10 games, the Freedom registered eight shutouts allowing just two goals, while scoring a total of 21 goals themselves. The Freedom also took first place at the Columbus Forth Dix Tournament with three shutouts.

The Freedom is coached by Ande Weather and Jeff Greenblatt. The players are Alex Monte, Ashley Collimore, Caitlin Arneth, Elizabeth Navas, Hanah Missry, Jackie Weathers, Jordyn Greenblatt, Karleigh Niedt, Morgan Olsen, Nichole Durante, Nicole Fernandez, Rebecca Morrisey, Samantha Schlageter, Samantha Blake and Tatiana Drye.

Pinelanders Youth Soccer Club, Howell, is now accepting registrations for the spring season. This is a recreational program: all games are played at the fields on Adelphia-Farmingdale Road (Route 524) in North Howell. Registration is open to boys and girls who will be aged 4-18 on April 1, 2006; birth certificates are required at registration. Girls 7-18 can choose all-girl or co-ed soccer. The fee is $40 per player; $80 max per family. There are no residency requirements. Friday, Jan. 13, 7-9 p.m. (back entrance)

Saturday, Jan. 14, 9 a.m. to noon (front entrance)

The Lakewood High School Athletic Hall of Fame has been established to honor former Lakewood High student-athletes, coaches and others whose achievements have made a major impact on the school’s athletic program.

“The controlling objective is to return honor, enshrine memory and encourage a strong an continuing bond between the selected, their families and Lakewood High School athletics,” said. Ed Brandt, chairman of the Hall’s Selection Committee.

Categories for nominees are: athlete, coach and veteran. All must be Lakewood High graduates, unless they have demonstrated extenuating circumstances such as military service, illness, etc. Ed Brandt is a retired Lakewood High football coach and athletic director.

For athletes, eligibility begins the seventh year after the nominee’s graduation. Coaches must have served at least seven years at the school and they must have been retired from high school coaching at least seven years.

For consideration by the veteran’s committee, nominees must have graduated at least 30 years prior to the years in which he/she is being considered. This category is open to athletes and coaches.

Nominations will be accepted by the Selection Committee on an ongoing basis with forms available through the Director of Athletics’ Office, the Main Office or the Athletic Trainer’s Office, at Lakewood High School, East Seventh Street, Lakewood, NJ 08701.

A maximum of 14 nominees can be selected.

The Hall’s Selection Committee will meet prior to Feb. 15 of each year to vote for nominees. Those chosen will be honored at a banquet on April 30 at Woodlake Country Club.

New Jersey’s newest and fastest growing softball organization, ISA of New Jersey, is looking for individuals for its softball umpiring program. Clinics will be offered in central New Jersey beginning in January. Participants will be trained in all styles of softball, tested and ready to work ISA league or tournament games beginning April 2006. ASA, NSA and Federation members welcome.
