Jackson Liberty open house set
JACKSON - Construction is just about complete on the new Jackson Liberty High School, 125 North Hope Chapel Road, and the public is being invited to take its first look at the $70 million building. Allison Erwin, communications specialist for the Jackson School District, said a ribbon-cutting ceremony and an open house will be held at the school at 7 p.m. Aug. 24. It is expected that hundreds of people will attend the big event, she said. Students, parents and residents will be able to tour the building, assisted by student ambassadors. "As people wander throughout the school the student ambassadors will be there to help guide them and offer explanations of what they are seeing," Erwin said. Visitors will be able to see the gymnasiums, cafeterias, classrooms and auditorium for the first time. There are rooms for art and music in addition to wings for science and math classes. Technology, photography, printing, a television studio and a fabrication laboratory also have space in the building. The library will hold the bell from the old Prospertown one-room school. Construction on Jackson Liberty, the township's second public high school, began in November 2003. The two-story building will have room for 1,900 students in 295,000 square feet. There are 600 parking spots for students and 300 parking spots for faculty members and visitors. The school will open on Sept. 6 for students. Jackson Liberty will welcome freshman and sophomore classes this coming school year.
