Sports Shorts The New Egypt sixth-grade boys travel team swept the Waretown Athletic Associations 10th annual shootout. New Egypt competed against teams from Waretown, Barnegat, Berkeley, Brick and Lacy townships. The final game was a very competitive game, with New Egypt taking the win from Barnegat. New Egypt's Jamel Smith was also the recipient of the tournament MVP award. The players are Anthony Tucker, Andrew Winkowski, Vinnie Sica, Chris Jones, Bradley Ingenbrandt, Tyler Dietrich, Jacob Lawrence, Jamel Smith and Tyler Barnes. The coaches are Earl Meroney and Dave Jones.
Brianna Acacia, a 7-year-old gymnast, and Carli Fargione, both from Jackson, competed in the March Madness invitational gymnastics meet on Sunday, March 26, at Eastern National Academy, Paramus. The girls compete on the Level 5 USAG gymnastics team at Jonas Gymnastics Academy, Morganville. Brianna came in first place on the uneven bars with a score of 9.35; fourth place on the balance beam with a score of 8.85; fourth place on the on the vault with a score of 8.6, and she scored of 8.65 e route to a third-place finish in the all-around competition in the 7-8-age category. Her all around score of 35.45 qualifies her to compete in the Level 5 sectional competition. Carli came in first place on the balance beam with a score of 9.35. She also scored 8.2 on the uneven bars, 8.5 on the vault and 7.9 on the floor exercise en route to a fourth place finish in the all-around competition in the 7-8-age category. Her all-around score of 33.65 qualifies her to compete in the Level 5 sectional competition, which will be held at Envision Gymnastics, East Hampton, on Sunday.
