+ Bagels, Brownies and Books, a homeschooler book club, will discuss "Over Sea, Under Stone," by Susan Cooper at 1 p.m. Sept. 1 at the Howell library, 318 Old Tavern Road. Details: (732) 938-2300.

+ An Academic Appreciation Back to School Block Party, hosted by the SAGE Foundation, will be held Sept. 2 from noon to 8 p.m. on Martin Luther King Boulevard between John and Center streets in Lakewood. (Rain date Sept. 3.) Speakers will encourage young people to realize their potential, value education and aim to be the best they can be. + Ocean County Coin Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 7 and Sept. 21 at the Point Pleasant Beach firehouse at Arnold and St. Louis avenues in Point Pleasant Beach. Education and coin auctions take place at the meetings. There is no charge for admission - all are invited. A free coin auction for juniors takes place at 6:45 p.m. prior to the meeting. + A free memory seminar and luncheon will be held Sept. 8 at 10 a.m. at the Howell Senior Center, 251 Preventorium Road. Hosted by Dr. Manjula Thopcherla, a board certified physician of internal and geriatric medicine at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood, the seminar will focus on memory loss and dementia. + A blood drive will be held Sept. 8 for Courtney Hughes, a young girl from St. Aloysius parish and school in Jackson. Sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus, Council 6201, the blood drive will take place at the Knights of Columbus home at 410 Bartley Road, Jackson. + Railroaders Weekend will be celebrated Sept. 9-10 at the Pine Creek Railroad of Historic Allaire State Park, Route 524 (Atlantic Avenue), Wall Town-ship. The event will feature trains, locomotives, shop tours, displays, exhibits and more. Train rides are $5 per person and the rest of show is free. + "The Men of American Male Revue," a ladies night out fundraiser to benefit the Give Back Foundation, will be held at the New Egypt Elks Lodge, Route 528 and Lakewood Road, New Egypt, on Sept. 15.
