Community Bulletin Board The Howell Parks & Recreation Department will hold its annual Howell Day Festival at Oak Glen Park Oct. 7, said Steven Fecher, acting director. The free event will feature the Jersey Shore Jazz and Blues Youth Band, wine tasting, vendors, food, fun and more, beginning at noon. Entertainment will include The Infernos, a show band featuring Kenny Simmons, formerly of The Commodores, at 5:30 p.m., and The Shirelles rock and roll female group at 7 p.m. A fireworks display will cap off the festivities. Parking for Howell Day will be available at Howell Township Public Works Department on Old Tavern Road and the Aldrich Road Park & Ride. Free shuttle buses are available. United Way seeks Halloween costumes In an effort to help all children dress up for Halloween, the United Way of Ocean County is running its annual Halloween Costume Drive. The organization will be collecting new and gently used costumes through Oct. 20. During last year's costume drive, more than 650 costumes were collected and distributed to children in the community through United Way's Partner Agencies and other Ocean County organizations. Parks slates senior golf tournament The Ocean County Parks and Recreation Department will conduct a senior golf tournament for men and women at the Bey Lea Golf Course Oct. 12. The rain date is Oct. 26. Check-in for the event will be at 8 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The fee of $25 per person includes green fees and awards. Golf carts are mandatory and the fee will be paid directly to the course on tournament day.
