Howell Day festivities planned

HOWELL - The 34th annual Howell Day is scheduled for Oct. 7 at Oak Glen Park, Preventorium and Old Tavern roads. The municipal venue has played host to the popular community event for more than 20 years.

The festivities will kick off at noon with a medley of patriotic songs presented by fifth-graders from the Southard School and the Greenville School.

Afterward, the Jersey Shore Jazz and Blues Youth Band and Big Joe Henry from New Jersey 101.5 FM will do their part to keep the party rolling.

More than 150 vendors will be on hand selling everything from food and crafts to real estate.

Free rides will include a train, a rock wall and a giant slide, among other activities for youngsters.

The Infernos will perform at 5:30 p.m., featuring Kenny Simmons, formerly of the Commodores. Following the Infernos, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members the Shirelles will headline the event. Their performance will be followed by fireworks.

Parking will not be available at Oak Glen Park. Visitors to Howell Day may park at the Department of Public Works, Old Tavern Road, and take a shuttle bus to Oak Glen Park, or they may park at the park and ride at Aldrich Road and Route 9 and take a shuttle bus from that location to the festivities.

Donations of nonperishable food items will be collected at the gate and given to the Howell Food Pantry.
