Women of Today honored
BY DAVE BENJAMIN
Staff Writer

DAVE BENJAMIN Jackson Mayor Mark Seda reads a proclamation thanking representatives of the Jackson Women of Today for the organization's service to the community.
JACKSON - The members of the Jackson Women of Today have been recognized by municipal officials for their hard work and dedication to the community.

"The Jackson Women of Today do a tremendous amount of work in Jack-son," Mayor Mark Seda said at the Sept. 26 Township Council meeting. "They have been an integral part of our community and have recently celebrated their 42nd anniversary."

Seda said the group is dedicated to actively promoting public awareness and service programs in the township.

He noted that the Jackson Women of Today, the New Jersey Women of Today and the United States Women of Today celebrated the week of Sept. 24-30 as Women of Today Week.

"They provide leadership training and personal enrichment opportunities throughout the state to people 18 years and older," Seda said. "They administer the food pantry and have presented several annual scholarships to graduating students in Jackson."

At present the group supports Parents of Autistic Children as its national charity. The members participate in other charitable projects that unite their friendship and belief in the future.

"I want to thank you personally for all your hard work," the mayor said.

Representatives of the Jackson Women of Today thanked Seda, Jackson residents, Scout troops, churches and members of fellow organizations for showing support.

"We just can't do without them," said Cathy Mueller. "It's been 19 years at the food pantry. We've moved [the pantry] from a garage to St. Thomas Church and now to the old library ... The seniors come over and help stock the pantry."

Mueller said that through the food pantry the Jackson Women of Today serve hundreds of people in the community every month.

"We help tide people over until they can get more subsistence," she said. "Thank you all for your support."
