Info session on how to become a master gardener

Freeholder Joseph H. Vicari encourages those with green thumbs, and those who wish they had one, to consider becoming a master gardener through the program offered by the Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Ocean County.

"The master gardeners are not only gardening enthusiasts, they are involved in community programs ranging from helping municipalities with their plantings to raising vegetables for the local food pantries to identifying ticks," Vicari said.

Master gardener is a certified title earned by enrolling in the program and participating in community service projects. There are almost 150 active master gardeners in the county, according to a press release from the freeholders. Anyone interested in learning more about becoming a master gardener is invited to attend a special session Nov. 15 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the extension offices, 1623 Whitesville Road, Toms River. To reserve a spot, call (732) 349-1246.
