Training seminar for substitute teachers slated
Ocean County College's Faculty Development Institute (FDI), in cooperation with the school districts in Ocean County, is offering a three-day, 20-hour training seminar to prepare attendees to become a substitute teacher, and to serve as a refresher in-service program for substitute teachers currently employed by local school districts. Upon successful completion, participants will receive two continuing education units. The three-day workshop will be held Nov. 17 from 3:30 to 9:30 p.m., Nov. 18 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Nov. 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Conference rooms A and B, College Center, OCC main campus, College Drive, Toms River. To qualify to become a substitute teacher, candidates must attain a minimum of 60 college credits (official transcript), successfully undergo a criminal background check, and provide evidence of a negative Mantoux test. Jackson Women of Today 'Cute Kid' contest winner
Two-year-old Brian Anthony Davidson was awarded the title of "Cutest Kid" in Jackson Oct. 28 at 9 a.m. at the Jackson ShopRite. Jennifer McMahon, ShopRite customer relations manager, and Jackson Women of Today President Kathy Mueller presented Brian and his mother, Jen Barbour, with the prize of a $50 gift certificate to ShopRite and a large basket of toys. The annual Cute Kid Contest is sponsored by the Jackson Women of Today. Photographs are displayed at the Jackson ShopRite and voted on by the public at a cost of 10 cents per vote. The money raised by the Jackson Women of Today is used to support its many worthwhile projects such as the Jackson Food Pantry and the Scholarship Fund.
