Obituaries Peter J. McAloon Mr. McAloon, 86, of the Surrey Downs section of Howell, died Nov. 3, 2006, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in New York, he had lived in Staten Island, N.Y., before moving to Howell six years ago. Prior to retiring in 1982, he was a bus driver for the New York City Transit Authority in Brooklyn for 36 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and fought in the European theater. He was a communicant of St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, Farmingdale. He was also an honorary member of the St. Clement Senior Citizens Club in Matawan, as well as a former member of the Marlboro Friendship Club. Mr. McAloon was predeceased by two sons, Michael in 1986 and Peter in 2001. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Dorothy McAloon; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Noreen McAloon of Bedford, N.H., and Brian and Maureen McAloon of Agoura Hills, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Catherine of Siena Church, followed by interment at Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island. Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements. Edward P. Daly Mr. Daly, 82, of the Cliffwood Beach section of Old Bridge, died Oct. 18, 2006, at Regency Park Nursing Home, Hazlet. Born in Newark, he resided there before moving to Cliffwood Beach in 1951. Mr. Daly was a physical science technician and was awarded several patents while employed at Fort Monmouth for 32 years, retiring in 1979. Following retirement, he drove a school bus for Wooley's Buys Co. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a communicant of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. Mr. Daly was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph Daly and Frederick Daly. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Walbroel Daly; three daughters, Mary Bader of Rumson, Joan West of West Long Branch, and Patricia Daly of Matawan; two sons, Edward R. Daly of the Avenel section of Woodbridge, and Richard J. Daly of Howell; and eight grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Holy Family Church, followed by entombment at Holmdel Mausoleum. Day Funeral Home, Keyport, was in charge of arrangements.
Mary M. Kevlin Mrs. Kevlin, 84, of Howell, died Oct. 21, 2006, at Crossroads at Howell. Born in Marion, Ohio, she was one of 16 children. She was a lifelong resident of Jersey City before retiring to Whiting and then moving to Howell five years ago. Prior to retiring in 1990, she was employed by the state of New Jersey, Jersey City, for 10 years as a visiting homemaker. Mrs. Kevlin is survived by three sons, Norman and Gary Bauman, both of Columbus, Ohio, and Michael Kevlin of Manalapan; a brother, Roger Postell of Ohio; five sisters, Doris Needles of California, and Florence Dawson, Betty Osbourne, Sheila Cornelius and Sharon Betty, all of Ohio; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, was in charge of arrangements, which were private. Helen E. Fischler Pitonak Mrs. Pitonak, 86, of Keyport, died Oct. 18, 2006, at home. Born in Keyport, she was a lifelong resident. Mrs. Pitonak was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. She was predeceased by her husband, John Pitonak, in 1978; and a sister, Ann Kulas, in 2006. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Frank Dwyer of Warren; a sister, Barbara Basko of Jackson; two brothers, Joseph Fischler and Frank Fischler, both of Keyport; and two grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph's Church, followed by interment at the church's cemetery. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport. Margaret Louise La Mel Mrs. La Mel, 67, of Jackson, died Oct. 17, 2006, at home. Born in Neptune, she had resided in Freehold before moving to Jackson nine years ago. She worked for many years as a supervisor for the former Langeveld Bulb Co., which was located in the Freehold area. She was a member of the Jackson Estates Mobile Home Association. Mrs. La Mel was predeceased in 1993 by a son, Joseph Scott. Surviving are her husband of 45 years, David; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Debra La Mel of Wichita Falls, Texas; two daughters and a son-in-law, Debra La Mel of Freehold, and Donna and George Weiss of Brick; a brother, Leon Marter of Hightstown; a sister, Joan Tedesco of Florida; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad St., Shrewsbury 07702.
