Statewide contest celebrates New Jersey

Residents of New Jersey are invited to participate in a statewide contest sponsored by the nonprofit Celebrate New Jersey! The statewide organization is looking for unique, interesting and even personal reasons individuals have for loving their state, county or town. Places, groups, people or events also can be recognized.

The nonprofit organization's mission, which started as a joint venture with the Crossroads of the American Revolution Association, was formed to promote a positive image of New Jersey, its counties and towns as well as its special places, people or events. In this contest there will be 365 winners.

"This is a great opportunity for us to let others know why we enjoy living in this area," said Ocean County Freeholder Director Gerry P. Little. "Many people form their opinion of New Jersey based on a quick ride through our industrial section along the New Jersey Turnpike. This is our chance to show the wonderfully rich texture of living in Ocean County and its communities."

"Celebrate New Jersey! has been reaching out to people of all ages, including our students, to increase positive awareness of the many wonderful things within our state," said Freeholder Joseph H. Vicari, who serves as Ocean County's tourism liaison.

"Many of them are in Ocean County, and this event provides a chance for us to share that pride," Vicari said.

Winners could be on billboards, on posters, in the newspapers, on TV or on the radio as part of the Celebrate NJ! promotional campaign, according to the Celebrate NJ! sponsors.

To participate, explain in 25 words or less why you Celebrate NJ! Entries should be submitted via the Internet at www.CelebrateNj.org or mailed to P.O. Box 277, Bradley Beach 07720 before Feb. 28.
