Lindsey Gallo was ranked No. 2 in the country for the women's 1,500 meters/mile for 2006 by the Track and Field News. The former state champion and All-American at Howell High School now runs professionally for Reebok.

In 2006, Gallo, who finished second at the U.S. national championships, had a season's best of 4:07.51 for the 1,500 and 4:40.35 for the mile. Internationally, she finished eighth at the Stockholm meet.

Gallo also ranked among the fastest American women at 3,000 (9:10.43) and 5,000 (15:45.71) meters during the season. After starring at Howell, Gallo was a multiple Big 10 champion and multiple All-American for the University of Michigan.

Anyone who is looking to become a certified track and field/cross country official can do so by calling Bill Bruno, course director and Shore Conference president, at Brick Memorial High School at (732) 785-3090, ext. 3030, or (732) 262-2500, ext. 2034, at Brick Township High School. The track officials course is open to men and women who need to produce two letters of reference attesting to his/her character. The classes will be held at Brick Memorial High School, 2001 Lanes Mill Road, Brick, on Tuesday. Registration must be done ahead of time by calling Bruno.

Jackson Renegades girls fastpitch softball seeks the following players for the 2007 season - U12 and U16 teams seeking several players to complete their roster, while U14 is seeking a pitcher, catcher and one additional player. Call John Byster at (732) 408-1982 or e-mail jbyster@hotmail for additional information.

The Jersey Shore Giants 12U baseball team is holding tryouts for the spring season. Undefeated (7-0) in the fall, they will be playing at Frogbridge on the 50/70 field in Jackson this year. Games on Sundays do not conflict with Little League. They have a long history of accommodating busy-parent schedules. If you have a tournament or near-tournament quality 11- or 12-year-old who loves baseball, call Coach Jeff for a no-pressure tryout at (732) 259-0761 or send an e-mail to jmende@optonline.net.
