Jackson officials search for head of rec & senior services dept.

JACKSON - Township officials are searching for a director of recreation and senior services.

According to Jackson's revised administrative code, the department of recreation and the department of senior services have been merged and will have one director.

Anne Alberta, who had been the director of the recreation department, is no longer working for the township. She joined the department in March 2003 as program coordinator for special events. She was named director of recreation in April 2003 and served in that position until Jan. 26. Alberta could not be reached for comment.

Janice Connor is the recreation program administrator in the Office of Golden Age in the Jackson Senior Center. Connor is expected to work under the individual who is named director of recreation and senior services, according to Laura Borys of the Jackson personnel office.

Township Council President Angelo Stallone said a job description for the director of recreation and senior services has been posted in newspapers and applications have been received. He said the applications will be reviewed and a candidate will eventually be selected.

The director of recreation and senior services will be appointed by the mayor with the advice and consent of the council.

The director of recreation and senior services will administer the work of the department, administer and operate playgrounds, facilities for indoor and outdoor sports, administer athletic, cultural and recreational programs, and administer all activities for children, youths and adults in the township.

Other duties include planning and development of public recreational areas and facilities; adopt reasonable rules, regulations and bylaws, subject to Township Council approval; hire part-time and seasonal staff; and maintain records of department receipts, expenditures and time cards.

Within the Department of Recreation and Senior Services will be the Division of Senior Services, which will be headed by the recreation program administrator.
