Comic books to be given away

Free Comic Book Day, an interna-tional event celebrating America's most original visual art form, returns May 5 with millions of comic books to be given away at thousands of comic book stores worldwide.

The Comics Professional Retail Organization (ComicsPRO), the indepen-dent comic book retailers trade association, is encouraging readers of all ages to experience the diversity of entertainment found in comics by visiting a participating store on Free Comic Book Day.

"From the success of blockbuster movies like the Spiderman franchise, 'V for Vendetta' and '300,' to the mega-hit status of TV shows such as 'Heroes' and 'Smallville,' comic books have never been more popular in all media," said Joe Field, president of ComicsPRO and the founder of Free Comic Book Day. "Comics really are the creative nerve center of all visual entertainment, and Free Comic Book Day shines the spotlight on the incredibly powerful comics medium."

Ed Cook of The Record Store, 6299 Route 9 North, Howell, a member of ComicsPRO, will be participating in Free Comic Book Day on May 5. For more information call (732) 905-9056.
