Sports Shorts

The Howell Recreation Department will hold registration for its adult summer basketball league until April 18. Both men's and women's divisions are open to those 18 and older. All games are held at Oak Glen Park on weekday evenings. Regular season will begin in late May and run through August, plus playoffs. Fee is $95 per player with an eight-player maximum per roster. The Riptides JOGA C team from the Monmouth Gymnastics Academy in Morganville competed in the New Jersey State Championships held at American Gymnastics in South Plainfield. The Riptide had two gymnasts win state championships.

Caitlin Schwartz, 13, won the balance beam in her division and was second in the all-around (30.55). She had top-10 finishes on the uneven bars (seventh) and vault (ninth).

Kristen Marley, 12, won the vault (8.425) in her age group.

Nicole Cuba, 10, was seventh on the vault and sixth on the balance beam.

Jessica Minkoff, 14, who competes for the Shockwaves girls gymnastics team from the MGA, won the all-around title at the Level 8 State Sectional Championships hosted by North Stars in Boonton. Minkoff scored a 34.35 in winning the AA title. She also won the vault (9.25) and floor (9.25) and was second on the beam (8.65).
