Residents appointed to boards HOWELL - The Township Council announced new appointments to municipal boards during its meeting on April 10. The Farmers Advisory Committee will have two new alternate members - Emil Hubit, who will serve until Dec. 31, 2008, and Sharon Hubit, who will serve until Dec. 31, 2009. The Hubits will assist the committee with providing an assessment of measures to aid the farming community. The committee also provides recommendations to the council and other public authorities as to the impact of development and planning changes on the farming community, according to information provided by Howell's Internet Web site. The committee has seven members and meets on the fourth Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the main administration building. The Preservation Task Force, which was established to preserve Howell's remaining natural assets, historical sites and open spaces, will also have new additions. The new alternate members are Sal Massaro, who was appointed to serve until Dec. 31, 2008, and Fran Malsbury, who will serve until Dec. 31, 2007. The committee is comprised of five members with five-year terms and two alternate members with two-year terms. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the upstairs conference room of the main administration building. Jeanne Lynch has been appointed to replace Zig Panek, the township's certified tree expert, on the Shade Tree Commis-sion. According to Panek, he resigned as a member of the commission and asked the council to appoint an alternate member so that he may resume his position as Howell's certified tree expert and avoid conflict. Lynch has been appointed to serve until Dec. 31, 2010, and will continue to help the commission "have full and exclusive control over the regulation, planting and care of shade and ornamental trees and shrubbery now located, or which may be planted in any public highway, park or parkway." The commission meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the main administration building. Richard Alter, who is a sitting member of the Economic Development Committee, has been appointed to replace Chairman Robert Faias. Alter will complete the remainder of Faias' term, which expires Dec. 31. Alter will lead the EDC in fulfilling its purpose to "assist and advise the Town-ship Council in implementing a construction program for sustained and selective economic growth for the township with particular emphasis upon an enlightened and responsible program to encourage commercial and industrial development and location within Howell in furtherance and in accordance with the master plan and land use regulations of the township," according to information posted on Howell's Web site. The EDC meets on the fourth Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the upstairs conference room of the main administration building.
