Benefit volleyball game on tap
BY DAVE BENJAMIN
Staff Writer

JACKSON - Members of Jackson PBA Local No. 168 will join local firefighters for a volleyball game against McAuliffe Middle School faculty members.

The event will take place at 6 p.m. May 2 in the McAuliffe Middle School gymnasium.

"We did it back in November for a family in town and it seemed to be pretty successful. We raised over $1,000," Police Officer John Pejoski said.

Pejoski said that for the past few years the PBA has been getting involved in charity sporting events to help people in town who need some assistance.

"The PBA jumps on the opportunity to give back," the officer said.

On May 2, the police officers and firefighters will play together. The McAuliffe faculty will have a team and Pejoski said he believes there may also be a team of students.

"It's sort of a round robin," he said. "This time we'd like to incorporate the students as well."

Principal Kevin DiEugenio said, "The student all-stars are under the direction of Melissa Fernandez, a seventh grade social studies teacher who coordinates the school's intramural volleyball team. She's had the kids working out and has chosen an all-star team of eight students who are going to play in a round robin tournament against the faculty. We filled the gym last fall. We probably had about 800 spectators at the fall fundraiser. May 2 should be a big night here."

All proceeds from the May 2 night of volleyball will benefit the Nowacowski family, which had a sudden death in the family, DiEugenio said.

Admission will be $5 for adults and $3 for high school and middle school students. Elementary school students and younger children will be admitted free.
