'Sesame Street' actress to visit libraries
 | | Loretta Long |
| Ocean County Library will present two story-time programs for children and families featuring Dr. Loretta Long, who played the role of Susan on "Sesame Street." The programs will be held June 5 at 10 a.m. at the Lakewood library, 301 Lexington Ave., and at 5 p.m. at the Toms River branch, 101 Washington St.
Long will host a birthday celebration and a reading of her book "Courtney's Birthday Party." The program will promote family literacy.
"Courtney's Birthday Party" tells the story of two young girls who learn about friendship and acceptance across cultural lines. It promotes individuality, diversity and tolerance.
Following each presentation Long will be available for a book signing.
Besides being one of the original cast members on "Sesame Street," Long has acted in musicals such as "Guys and Dolls" and "Sweet Charity" and appeared on the Flip Wilson Show and the public television show "Soul."
Long earned her doctorate in urban education from the University of Massachusetts in 1973. She works as a consultant and public speaker, addressing issues that concern multiculturalism, diversity and education. These programs are free and open to the public.
