The Howell Heat White fastpitch softball team won the A Flight 12U bracket in Rockaway over the Memorial Day weekend. The team went 6-0, giving up only six runs the entire weekend. They played the Clifton Cobras in a thrilling championship game. The Cobras scored three runs in the first inning, and the score remained 3-0 until the bottom of the fifth inning. Howell's Lauren Saal got a base hit to start the comeback, before Erin Drennan followed with another base hit. Deena Stefanelli was walked, before Amy Piccicacco got on by a fielder's choice. Danielle Budden then ripped a base hit to score two runs. The Cobras' outfielder tried to throw Piccicacco out at third base, but the ball trickled away and Piccicacco scored to tie it up 3 -3. In the bottom of the sixth, Howell's Taylor August walked, before Emily Cottrell got a base hit moving August to second base. Bryana Smith then added a base hit and August scored to win the game.
