Tax bills ready to be sent out
BY DAVE BENJAMIN
Staff Writer

JACKSON - Tax bills for 2007-08 were expected to be mailed to property owners in Jackson last week, according to tax collector Michael W. Campbell.

Ahead of the projected July 6 mailing date for the tax bills, Campbell said municipal officials were just waiting for Ocean County to release Jackson's file.

In reviewing the tax rates that make up a property tax bill, Campbell noted that the Jackson school tax rate has risen from $2.23 to $2.27 per $100 of assessed valuation.

Total county taxes (county government, library and health department) went up 2.1 cents per $100 of assessed valuation, he said.

The tax rate in fire districts No. 3 and No. 5 in Jackson appear to have stayed flat, but the other three fire districts went up, Campbell noted.

The municipal tax rate remained relatively flat, although rounding actually brought the rate from 79.3 cents in 2006-07 to 79.4 cents per $100 of assessed valuation for 2007-08.

Campbell said all of the block and lot numbers in Jackson have changed because the tax maps were redone and the state required all of the properties to be renumbered. He said the new block and lot numbers will be on the tax bills.
