Student tapped for conference

Nicole A. Skrobola, a student at Howell High School, has been selected to attend the 2007 Congressional Student Leadership Conference, sponsored by LeadAmerica, at St. John's University in Queens, N.Y.

The conference is a college-accredited invitational leadership program for academically talented and promising young leaders internationally.

Exceptional high school students with a record of academic achievement and extracurricular activities or community involvement are invited to participate, according to a press release.

Students select an academic area to study, choosing from a wide range of topics from government and politics to crime scene investigation to theater arts.

According to the press release, Skrobola is attending the medicine and healthcare conference and plans to pursue a career as a veterinarian after college.

Through briefings and discussions with national and international leaders and by engaging in interactive workshops and activities, students learn and develop leadership skills, including effective communication, conflict resolution, team building and time management.

According to the press release, LeadAmerica's mission is to transform the world's next generation of leaders by educating, inspiring and instilling in them ethical and principled leadership values, attitudes and skills.
