Sports Shorts The Jackson Heat 11U (currently playing as 10s) travel baseball club is looking to add a few players. The team is looking for pitchers and position players, playing 46/60 in the fall and 50/70 in the spring with tournaments in between. The team has done very well, winning the USABL West Division last fall and this spring. Team is 40-6 since inception as 9s, including tournaments. New Egypt Unity, a U10 girls team competing in Monmouth-Ocean Soccer Association (MOSA) National 1 flight this fall, seeks a few additional players for the upcoming season. The Jackson Renegades Girls Softball Organization is holding tryouts for players for the 2007-08 season. Tryouts are being held on the following dates: Sunday, Aug. 19 - 14U and 16U from 9 to 11 a.m., and 10U and 12U from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and Sunday, Aug. 26, Sept. 9 and Sept. 16 (all age groups), 9-10:30 a.m. Tryouts will be held at the Bartley softball fields located on Bartley Road in Jackson, across from Holbrook Little League. The Battle of Monmouth Raptors, a boys U11 soccer team based in Howell, won the Monmouth/Ocean Soccer Association's U-11 premier championship for the spring 2007 season. The team finished undefeated, going 8-0-2, and defeated the Toms River Tar Heels Soccer club by a score of 4-0 in the final game for the championship trophy. The team is composed of boys from Howell, Freehold, Jackson and Rumson and includes Shane Ploe, Ian Kirk, Ryan Bailey, Danny Serreino, Sheldon Glemaud, Aldo Giammanco, Eamon Kitson, Colin Chehanske, Brian Dziobak, Taylor Demick, Tyler Dickey, Jeremy Hoops and Alex Weiss.
The Central Jersey Tornado 14U Fastpitch Softball Organization is currently looking for players to fill out its roster for the 2007-08 season. Girls most be born in 1993 or 1994 to be eligible. All positions are welcome. Tryouts will be held on Aug. 25 at 1 p.m. and Aug. 26 at 9 a.m. The location is to be determined. The Howell Heat 10U softball team went undefeated in the Howell Heat Wave Tournament, on Saturday, July 28, and Sunday, July 29, winning the tournament championship for the second time this year. Their record this season is 27-8-2 with one tournament left this season
