Charity softball game set

JACKSON - A charity softball game to benefit a township family will be played at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 14 at Pine Park, County Line Road, Lakewood.

"The game will be played under the lights," said Jackson Police Officer John Pejoski. "Many of the firefighters and cops work past 5 p.m. so we will start the game at 7:30 p.m. and that's why we needed a park with lights."

Pejoski said the game's organiz ers asked Lakewood officials for permission to use the park and they graciously said yes to the request.

Admission to the charity softball game will be $5 per person. Children 10 and younger will be admitted free. Pejoski said pro ceeds from the event will go to help a Jackson family in which one in dividual is suffering from a debili tating disease.

"We wanted to play a summer game, softball, and keep the inter est level high so the competition will be between the firefighters and the police officers," Pejoski said. "Just like the other events we do, there's always a little competi tive edge. Most of the guys in the PBA now have been there for about 10 to 15 years and the same with our firefighter brethren. When we see each other it's usually at a call. So basically it's always work related and now we actually have a chance to hang out and have some fun and it's for a good cause."

Firemen from all of Jackson's fire districts are expected to partic ipate in the charity event. Pejoski said the police department has its own softball team.

Another event coming up soon will be the Jackson Day parade.

"I am asking any organization wishing to march in the Jackson Day parade to please contact me no later than Aug. 17," Pejoski said. "The Jackson Day parade will be held on Sept. 8 at noon."
