Girl Scouts offer opportunities

More than 17,000 girls are Girl Scouts in Monmouth and Ocean counties. Through its programs, they learn self-confidence, responsibility, integrity, decisiveness and teamwork - the skills of a great leader - as they grow strong in mind, body and spirit.

Girl members work with caring adults, allowing them to explore their potential without competition from boys - an opportunity many educators consider essential for girls to achieve future aspirations, according to a press release from the Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore.

Activities are designed for different age levels and may include camping; Spooktacular, a haunted costume and dance party; and trips to Niagara Falls and Boston, as well as archery, horse and boating programs.

The program is delivered in age and grade specific levels. The levels are:

• Daisy Girl Scouts, ages 5-6, kindergarten or grade 1.

• Brownie Girl Scouts, ages 6-8, or grades 1-2-3.

• Junior Girl Scouts, ages 8-11, or grades 3-4-5-6.

• Teen Girl Scouts, ages 11-17, or grades 6-12.

• Adult Girl Scout Volunteers, age 18 and over.

Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore offers flexible options to anyone interested in the development of young girls as troop leaders, volunteers and committee members.

Financial assistance is available to those who qualify. Details: (800) 785-2090.
