Rotary event proves fun for special needs people
      Contests, prizes, food and fun made for an enjoyable day for all who attended the Jackson Rotary Club's annual picnic and fishing tournament for special needs children and adults. The event, initiated by the late Steven Kitay, was held at the residence of his son, Peter Kitay.

      A fashion show is scheduled to be held at Howell Middle School North, Squankum Yellowbrook Road, Howell, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. Boys and girls will model clothes for this event, which is sponsored by the Howell Special Education Parent Advisory Council's executive board (SEPAC).

Self-defense class for women slated in Jackson
      A self-defense seminar for women will be held at Jackson Memorial High School, Don Connor Boulevard, Jackson, from 7-9 p.m. Nov. 13. Sgt. Edward Bennett, the self-defense instructor for the Jackson Police Department, will conduct the seminar.

      In response to the recent fire at the Jackson Food Pantry, Lutheran Social Ministries of New Jersey presented a check for $2,500 to Diane Stanaway, president of the Jackson Women of Today, at its organizational meeting Oct. 8.

St. Aloysius students score at math contest
      Eighth-graders from the St. Aloysius School, Jackson, placed third at the 37th annual Christian Brothers Academy eighth grade mathematics contest. The contest, held Oct. 20 at the CBA campus in Lincroft, involved private, parochial and public schools from around the state.
