St. Aloysius students score at math contest

Eighth-graders from the St. Aloysius School, Jackson, placed third at the 37th annual Christian Brothers Academy eighth grade mathematics contest.

The contest, held Oct. 20 at the CBA campus in Lincroft, involved private, parochial and public schools from around the state.

"St. Aloysius School placed third in the private-parochial division in which there were 22 schools represented," said St. Aloysius School public relations coordinator Olive Taylor. "St. Aloysius School was the highest scoring parochial school [in the division] and eighth grade student James Mc- Gowan came in third out of over 170 private and parochial school students."

St. Aloysius has been represented in the CBA competition for the past seven years and the school's staff members and administrators are proud of this year's success, the best performance yet, Taylor said.

"I am so proud of all the team members, Alaina Young, Ashley Szymczyk, James McGowan, Brian Madden, Geraldine Mabagos, Zack Geltzeiler, Valerie Gambino and Jessica Cruz," said math teacher Lori Cebulski. "The students began preparing for this contest at the start of October. Their hard work and dedication certainly paid off."
