Howell may be getting ready to name new recreation director
BY MARK ROSMAN
Staff Writer

HOWELL -- Municipal officials may name a new recreation director as early as Dec. 26.

Howell Township Manager Helene Schlegel told Greater Media Newspapers on Dec. 19 that interviews have been conducted to find a replacement for Bryan Haltigan.

Haltigan, 34, was named Howell's parks and recreation director in May. Schlegel confirmed that he is no longer working for the township. Schlegel said a search for a new recreation director had been launched and candidates had been in to discuss the position. She said someone could be hired for the job by Dec. 26.

Haltigan came to Howell after serving as the recreation coordinator of neighboring Wall Township.

In an interview with Greater Media Newspapers at the time of his hiring, Haltigan said he had worked in many different environments, including the fitness industry, college athletics, marketing and sales.

Three candidates, including Haltigan, were given second interviews before municipal officials tapped him as the new recreation director.

At the time of his appointment Schlegel, who was then the deputy township manager and has since been promoted to township manager, said that out of all three candidates who were brought back for a second interview, Haltigan was the most impressive.

"Mr. Haltigan's variety of experiences impressed us the most. We felt he would be best suited for Howell," Schlegel said at the time.
