Become a substitute teacher in three days

The Department of School Relations at Ocean County College, Toms River, is offering a three-day substitute teacher training workshop in January. The course will be offered from 3:30-9:30 p.m. Jan. 11, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 12 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 13 in conference rooms A and B, College Center/Bookstore, OCC Main Campus, College Drive, Toms River.

This training seminar prepares attendees to become a substitute teacher and serves as a refresher in-service program for substitute teachers currently employed by local school districts. Upon successful completion, participants will receive two continuing education units.

To qualify to become a substitute teacher, candidates must hold a minimum of 60 college credits (official transcript), successfully undergo a criminal background check, and provide evidence of a negative Mantoux test.

The cost to attend is $175. Textbooks can be purchased (approximately $10) at the OCC bookstore prior to the first session. Details: (732) 255-0477.
