The thrill of victory for local wrestlers
While much of the spotlight was focused on JacksonMemorial's ScottWinston at last weekend'sNJSIAAwrestling tournament at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, there was still plenty to celebrate as a fan of Jaguar wrestling. In addition to Winston's third consecutive state crown, fellow senior Sean Byrnes (top left and bottomleft), also got the job done at 145 pounds as he defeated BrickMemorial's Steve Santos by a score of 7-1. It was Byrnes' third victory over Santos in a three-week span.
Also earning top honors was teammate Tyler Biscaha (top right, celebrating with coaches Doug Withstandley and Aaron Gottesman) at 103 pounds. The junior defeated Robert Deutsch of Eastern High School, 4-2, avenging a 2-0 loss to Deutsch earlier in the season.
112-pounder Joey Langel of Howell (above right) defeated Ocean Township'sMike Berardesco 6-2 to end his season with a 42-1 record. The senior is headed to Rutgers University next season.
Harry Turner of Howell finished second in the heavyweight division, losing in the finals to sophomore Jimmy Lawson of Manchester, 4-3.
