Resident professes love of flag

DAVE BENJAMIN Jackson resident Joseph Brill was honored by the Township Council for his unwavering support and respect for the U.S. flag.
JACKSON - Respect and honor your country's flag. That is the message Jackson resident Joseph Brill has been delivering at recent meetings of the Township Council.

Council members said thank you to Brill at their Dec. 26 meeting.

"I want to thank Mr. Brill for his unwavering request for respect for the American flag," council President Ann Updegrave said. "It is the symbol that represents the heart and soul of the United States of America."

Updegrave said Brill's efforts regarding the American flag have not been unrecognized or forgotten by the governing body of Jackson. He was presented with a certificate of appreciation.

"The governing body of Jackson Township hereby awards Joseph Brill for services rendered for the betterment of the Jackson community," Updegrave said.

Brill said he hopes the township will approve his flag protection act.

"The protection act that I wrote is mine," he said. "You won't find it anywhere on the Internet."

Brill said he just wants to make people aware there are many young people who died for the flag. He said people have to show respect for it.

Showing respect for the flag "means not putting it out at night without a light on it," he said. "Just be proud that we live in America. We live in a free country, because of our children who died for it."
