Council renames two streets
BY DAVE BENJAMIN Staff Writer

JACKSON - The Township Council has renamed two streets in the municipality.

Christopher Columbus Boulevard, off County Line Road, has been renamed to Cpl. Luigi Marciante Jr. Memorial Drive.

Marciante, 25, was killed on Sept. 20, 2007, while serving with the U.S. Army in Muqdadiyah, Iraq, after an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. He is survived by his wife, Stephanie, and son Lorenzo, 5 months.

Marciante was assigned to the Stryker Brigade Combat Team out of Fort Lewis, Wash., and inApril 2007, the 4th Brigade, of which he was a member, was deployed to Iraq.

Marciante was home in August to celebrate the birth of his son. He was killed upon his return to Iraq.

In announcing the honor, Jackson Councilman Angelo Stallone said, "Luigi Marciante paid the ultimate price for his family and country. It was a great gesture for the Central Jersey Italian American Club (which has its headquarters on the street) to honor him so that his name will not be forgotten."

The council also changed the name of Balmoral Court in the Four Seasons at Metedeconk Lakes adult community to Biltmore Court.

In other news at the Jan. 3 meeting, council members made more than 20 appointments. All positions are for a oneyear term that began Jan. 1 with the exception of a special counsel which is a six-month position that began Jan. 1.

George R. Gilmore was reappointed as township attorney and John Russo was reappointed as Jackson's attorney for affordable housing issues. The firm of Dilworth Paxson has been appointed as bond counsel and Larry French has been reappointed as Jackson's environmental engineer.

Joseph D. Coronato will be the municipal prosecutor and Dina Vicari was named Jackson's public defender.

The township engineer is Charles Rooney of T&M Associates and Brian Rumpf will return to his position as attorney for Jackson's rent leveling board.

Additional appointments include William Antonides as municipal auditor and special counsel Kevin Starkey. Jackson's Business Administrator Phil Del Turco has been appointed as fund commissioner, while municipal engineer Daniel Burke will be the alternate fund commissioner.
