Army Staff Sgt.Mark E.Mierta was a member of the U.S. Army support staff who helped coordinate and plan the recent All-American Bowl high school all-star football game played at theAlamodome in San Antonio, Texas, on Jan. 5. The nationally televised bowl game was sponsored by the U.S. Army and pitted the top high school football athletes in the nation against each other in an East vs. West contest. This was the eighth year that the Army has sponsored the game. In this year's matchup, the East beat West, 33- 23.

Mierta, a new systems training developer, is assigned to the U.S.ArmyAviation Logistics School at Fort Eustis, Newport News, Va. The staff sergeant has served in the military for eight years. He is the son of Mark J. and Susan Mierta of Jackson. The sergeant graduated in 1997 from Jackson Memorial High School.
