Business seminar set for April 17

LAKEWOOD- The Lakewood Department of Economic Development and the Lakewood Development Corp. (LDC) have announced a seminar that has been developed to assist local businesses.

"Government 101:How to GetYour Foot In the Door" is a free government-sponsored workshop designed to teach local businesses how to sell and procure business from government agencies.

The workshop is scheduled for April 17 from 9 a.m. to noon at the John Franklin Public Works Complex, 1 America Ave. Seating is limited and registration is required. Contact Patricia Komsa at (732) 364-2500, ext. 5257, for information.

"Sponsoring this program is another way the LDC and the Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ) is helping to foster business initiatives in Lakewood," Mayor Raymond Coles said. "Business growth in the township expands our ratable tax base and keeps residential property taxes down."

The Lakewood Department of Economic Development, the LDC and the UEZ program are co-sponsoring the program with the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) Defense Procurement Center.

The NJIT program is designed to teach small, women-owned and minority-owned New Jersey companies (with employment of fewer than 100 workers) interested in selling their goods and services to the Department of Defense and other government agencies.

"This type of workshop has helped women-owned and minority-owned firms winmore than $67.5million in Department of Defense contracts," said Russell Corby, the LDC executive director.
