Police dispatchers honored BY DENNIS JORDAN Correspondent
JACKSON - It was a night of recognizing achievements and honoring service at the April 8 meeting of the Township Council.
State Sen. Robert Singer (R-Ocean, Monmouth, Burlington,Mercer), who was in attendance at the meeting to commemorate the second week ofApril as National Telecommunicators Week, presented plaques of recognition to 13 dispatchers from the Jackson Police Department.
"We honor each of these individuals for the fine work they do in Jackson," Singer said. "We recognize the outstanding efforts of all our state telecommunicators."
"They are not recognized enough," council President Ann Updegrave added.
Senior dispatcher June Musto and dispatchers Margaret Bollentin, Denise Feeney, Robin Friedman, Melissa Long, Deborah Visconi and Robin Russell were present to accept their award.
Awards were also presented in the name of dispatchers Rose Hendrickson, Kelly Ann Long, Darlene Milko, Sheri Whitman and part-time dispatchers Jason Zimmerman and Brant Uricks.
The week of April 13-19 will be recognized as National Dispatchers Week.
The mayor and council members also recognized Eagle Scout Andrew McAllister for his efforts in building a gazebo at the Jackson Library on Jackson Drive.
"It's not every day that somebody dedicates their life to doing something they believe in," Mayor Mark Seda said. "This individual did a phenomenal job in bringing what was an idea of an outdoor reading area into fruition."
The construction of the gazebo, which took two years from inception to completion, was McAllister's community project for his Eagle Scout program.
"I wanted to give back to the library which had given so much to me when I was little," McAllister said.
The presentation to McAllister was made in conjunction with Jackson officials issuing a proclamation that the week of April 13-19 be recognized as National Library Week 2008.
In other news from the council meeting, the Jackson TownshipMunicipal Utilities Authority (JTMUA) announced that it will be flushing water mains throughout the township for a period of 10 weeks. The flushing began on April 9. Flushing will take place between the hours of 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. During these times, residents may experience temporary loss of water pressure and discoloration of water.
The JTMUA is asking that residents limit their water use during that particular time period.Anyone who has questions about the flushing program may contact the JTMUA at (732) 928-2222.
