Gala benefits Dottie'sHouse
Former Ocean County Freeholder Hazel Gluck was the honoree at the recent Have a Heart for Dottie's House Gala. More than $60,000 was raised for the survivors of domestic violence who reside at Dottie's House.

"I am delighted that Hazel agreed to be our honoree this evening. She has done so much for victims of domestic abuse and is most deserving of this honor," said Carol A. Wolfe, the founder of Dottie's House.

Dottie's House, a 17-unit apartment facility, provides housing and a training program designed to develop emotional and financial independence for women who were victims of domestic violence. Life skills include job training, financial and legal counseling, nutrition and parenting classes.

In her comments, Gluck referenced recent reports indicating that Ocean County has the second highest number of reported domestic abuse cases in the state; Camden is the first.

"It is time to break the silence and bring this issue to the forefront," she said.

Gluck, a former Kean administration official, is a governmental and legislative affairs consultant and a partner in the firm of MBI-GluckShaw. Most recently she has been appointed by Gov. Jon Corzine to the New Jersey Commission on Government Efficiency and Reform.

The gala was held at Spring Lake Manor in Spring Lake Heights. Major sponsors of the event included the Gluck family, JCP&L, Sovereign Bank and other major supporters, according to a press release.

A scholarship for graduates of Dottie's House or their children was established, with Hazel Gluck being the first honoree. The first speaker was a current Dottie's House resident who told her story of survival. Other program highlights included proclamations from Brick Township, the Ocean County Board of Freeholders, New Jersey's 10th Legislative District and a letter from Corzine.

Dottie's House's ninth annual golf outing will be held on May 19 at the Eagle Ridge Golf Club, Lakewood. For information on Dottie's House or the golf outing, call (732) 295-7380.
