Volunteers will be honored at Strand Theater

LAKEWOOD - The Historic Strand Theater, Clifton Avenue, will host "Applause," the theater's second annual volunteer appreciation event, from noon to 2 p.m. April 27. The event will be followed by the swinging sounds of the Duke Ellington Orchestra on the main stage at 2 p.m.

The event is being held in celebration of National Volunteer Recognition Week and to thank the Strand volunteers. Event highlights will include a champagne reception lunch and volunteer tribute ceremony.

Kevin Cummings, president of the Investors Savings Bank Charitable Foundation, will present a grant award to Strand Ventures Inc. for sponsorship of Strand Theater Gallery programs.

Cummings will be presented with an original lithograph of the theater, commemorating its 85th anniversary celebrated in 2007. The art work will be presented by the artist, Frank McGinley, president of the Artist and Professional League, New Jersey, and a renowned military artist.

The program will also include the installation ceremony of the new board members of Strand Ventures Inc. by the organization's president, Angela Velnich.

The new board members are Leonard Allen, second vice president, Investors Savings Bank, Lakewood; Camille Lopez, program director, Emergency and Community Services, Catholic Charities, Diocese of Trenton; and Dave Kapulsky, syndicated radio host known as "Dave the Rave."

The ceremony will conclude with a special presentation of a handmade quilt. The quilt pays tribute to the organization's volunteer efforts and features the names of past volunteers. The quilt will be displayed in the theater.
