A book sale sponsored by the Jackson Friends of the Library will be held May 1 (9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.) and May 2 and 3 (9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) at the Jackson library, 2 Jackson Drive, Jackson.

A fishing contest will be conducted by the Ocean County Department of Recreation on May 3, rain or shine, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration will be held at the Lake Shenandoah County Park boathouse, Route 88, Lakewood. Contestants may fish in any of Ocean County's freshwater lakes and rivers. Prizes will be awarded from 2:30-3 p.m. Fee: $2 for children, $4 for adults.
